Alex Johnston is a playwright and actor. His plays include: 'What the Dead Want' performed by The Gaiety School of Acting, 'Royal Supreme' (Theatre Royal Plymouth) and 'Melonfarmer' (Peacock). His play 'Entertainment' was nominated for an Irish Times Theatre Award for best new play in 2004, while his work 'Melonfarmer' won him a Stewart Parker Award in 1998. As an actor, he has appeared in many Bedrock productions including The 'Life of Stuff' and 'The Skriker'. Johnston has also performed with Loose Canon, Corn Exchange and The National Theatre. Alex Johnston has a long association with Bedrock Theatre Company, having worked for them as a writer, performer, producer and dramaturg. He was also appointed acting Artistic Director of the company from 2007-2008.
