Baile | Eolas | Déan Teagmháil Linn
Alex Johnston David Fancy Joseph Long
This English text of Quay West is a collaboration between the three translators, all of whom referred to the original French and all of whom offered comment on each other's work.
On the outskirts of a sprawling city one can only hear its distant hum, its police sirens and see its lights. All around there are vast disused harbour machinery and plants, huge dock sheds and remnants of past economic activity. It is in this apocalyptic place, on a very dark night, that some characters meet. Everything seems to set them apart, their age, their wealth, their nationality and their social standing. They have all been attracted to this location in search of some hypothetical salvation and above all, to find the courage to end it all: their life, their poverty or some relationship too difficult to take upon themselves. They all have their own reasons for being there.
