1892 - 1972
An English character actor who came to prominence following the Second World War in the film adaptations of Noël Coward's Blithe Spirit, and Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest. In 1963 she won the best supporting actress Oscar as The Duchess of Brighton in The VIPs. Made her stage debut at the Old Vic in 1925.
