Michael Joseph (M.J.) Molloy
In his comedy, unusually set aginst a backdrop of Catholic persecution in 1715-16, Molloy introduces us to the Kelly's, a once wealthy family who now are reduced to farming a small plot of land to survive. Honoria, the mother wants to marry off her middle daughter, Duvessa, to the wealthiest suitor, although Duvessa has other plans. In a plot that involves the selling of guns for gúnas, the resurrection of the family saint and farming at night Honoria struggles to reposition her family where she believes they belong.
