Originally from New York, Gentile earned graduate degrees in Mythological Studies (MA) at Pacifica Graduate Institute and in Performance Studies (MA and PhD) at Northwestern University. His stage adaptations of literary and folk narratives include Moby-Dick (Best Performance, Casablanca Theatre Festival; Best Play, Creative Loafing), Over Nine Waves: Myths of Ancient Ireland, Dark Forest: Tales of the Brothers Grimm, The Hero's Journey, Red Hanrahan (Edinburgh Fringe Festival) and The Scarlett Letter.
