He was born in Liverpool but moved to Dublin in 1905. He was very active in the Irish language revival movement, especially in Conradh na Gaeilge. He fought in the 1916 uprising. He was the manager and producer of Na hAisteoirí, a company set up in Dublin in 1912 which comprised various branches of Conradh na Gaeilge. He was a writer, poet and dramatist. His plays are An Danar (1929), An Sgaothaire agus Cúig Drámaí Eile (1929); An Bhean Chródha (1931), Cúigeachas (1936), An Fear as Buenos Aires (1936), An Fear Fograidheachta (1938), Cormac na Coille (g.d.)agus Fear an Sgéilín Grinn (g.d).
