Christina Reid

1942 - 2015

Christina Reid was born in the Ardoyne area of Belfast on 12 March 1942. She gained recognition for playwriting in 1980, winning the Ulster Television Drama Award for Did You Hear the One About the Irishman? She was awarded the Thames Television Playwriting Award for Tea in a China Cup and the George Devine award for The Belle of Belfast City. Her writing for television included The Last of a Dyin' Race, first aired on Channel 4 in 1986, which won a Giles Cooper Award. She was writer-in-residence at the Lyric Theatre and at the Young Vic, and also wrote for radio. In 2002 she was awarded a Major Individual Artist Award from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland in recognition of her contribution to playwriting in Northern Ireland. The Linenhall Library houses an archive of her work.
