Emma Donoghue is an award-winning Irish writer who lives in Canada. She has published several works of fiction, two works of literary history, two anthologies, and two plays. Donoghue's fiction includes two contemporary Dublin novels, Stirfry (1994) and Hood (1995, winner of the American Library Association's Gay and Lesbian book Award) and a historical novel inspired by an 18th-century murder, Slammerkin (2000, short-listed for the Irish Times Irish Fiction Prize). Her novel Room was shortlisted for the 2010 Man Booker Prize. Donoghue writes drama for both stage and for radio and is also known as a literary historian.
