1894 - 1976
O'Donnell was a sucessful businessman, owner of the Dublin Shirt and Collar Industries, and later a member of Seanad Éireann in the 1940s and '50s. As a young Abbey playwright, he was mentored by his friend T.C. Murray. A number of O'Donnell's plays were banned in Britain on political grounds, leading him to be described by the Irish Press as 'Ireland's most banned playwright'.
