Baile | Eolas | Déan Teagmháil Linn
Dermot Bolger
The play is set in Dublin. It spans 40 years, beginning in 1970.
Prior to the beginning of the run, women were invited to submit monologues based on their personal stories and experiences of moving house. A selection of these were read before each performance.
The experience of moving into a new home is universal; each move is uniquely etched in our memory. 'Tea Chests and Dreams' is about where our minds go when the final box is unloaded and we unwrap... cups, clocks and family heirlooms. It is about how we begin again.
From Ballymun flats to Tallaght estates; from 1970s returning Irish emigrants to immigrants starting new lives here today; from disco queens finding themselves isolated as young mothers to mature mothers striking out to establish new identities, the play captures the voices of thirteen women spanning five decades.
