Kitty is a play based on the life of Kitty Kiernan, the young woman from Granard, County Longford who became engaged to the Irish historical figure Michael Collins. In the play, her friend Alice Cooney, sweetheart and later wife of Sean MacEoin, visits at different times during the War of Independence and the Civil War. Their friendship is affected by the fast-changing events during this turbulent period of Irish history. The third character, a maid in the hotel where Kitty lives, provides comic relief and represents the feeling of the ordinary people who were shocked at the fatal shooting of Michael Collins.
