Stuart Carolan’s first play, Defender of the Faith, won the George Devine award when it premiered at the Abbey Theatre in 2004, after which Stuart went on to write commissions for the National Theatre and the Druid Theatre in Dublin. Defender of the Faith toured internationally, reaching Off Broadway and Glasgow in the process. In 2006, Stuart Carolan wrote the Empress of India, named after a dreadnought battleship of the imperial age. In 2008 Stuart turned to television writing, winning an IFTA nomination for his RTE project Little White Lies. He has since worked on a number of successful series, including RTE’s fast paced kitchen drama Raw and five series of the award-winning Love/Hate. Set in Dublin’s violent criminal underworld the series has been the most successful TV drama in Ireland’s history and has won a string of IFTA awards.
