Franz Xaver Kroetz is one of Germany's most distinguished living playwrights. He rose to fame in 1971 when his plays Heimarbeit and Hartnackig were disrupted by neo-fascists. Kroetz was awarded several prizes, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2005. He is also an actor and film director.
