Originally from Belfast, David trained as an actor at the RSAMD in Glasgow. He has worked as an actor with many theatre companies across the UK including the Royal Shakespeare Company, Manchester Royal Exchange, the Citizens Theatre Glasgow and the Traverse, Edinburgh. He was Playwright-in-Residence in the Lyric, Belfast, from 2011-2012. His play, Everything Between Us, produced by Tinderbox, won the prestigious Meyer Whitworth Award and the Stewart Parker BBC Radio Drama Award. His first play What the Animals Say was produced at Oran Mor in Glasgow in 2009, and transferred to the Belfast Festival. This was followed by End of Desire (Oran Mor), Yes So I Said Yes (Ransom), Half a Glass of Water (Field Day), Most Favoured (Traverse) Can't Forget About You (Lyric) and The Hen Night (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland). For radio he has adapted his play Everything Between Us for BBC Radio 3's The Wire and written an original work Trouble and Shame for BBC Radio Scotland.
