St. John Greer Ervine
The morning-room of Sir Samuel Lepper's mansion, Slieve Bearnagh House, at Stormont, outside Belfast.
Following the death of Sir Samuel Lepper a letter is read out to his assembled relatives in which the dead man dashes the expectations of those who had high hopes, and introduces an unacknowledged daughter for the first time.
