Michael Harding
The action begins on the eve of the Pope's visit to Ireland in September 1979.
Una's family is in Dublin to see the Pope. But there are unanswered questions. Would the Pope condemn communion in the hand? Would he put a halt to the gallop of well-heeled women? But more importantly, why was Una's brother being force-fed on muesli and lentils? Why did Father Simeon want to join a circus in Rio de Janeiro? Una Pooka is the fantasy of a single woman in a nation on its knees before the Roman Pontiff.
