Judith and Kit de Lury have lived in the old family estate of Killycreggs since their father passed away 20 years ago. Judith maintains and manages the house and gardens, while Kit oversees the housekeeping. Their tranquility is shattered with the arrival of a nephew, Loftus. He immediately assumes the role of the 'young master' with the servants and quickly adopts the pastimes of a country squire. Judith resolves to help Loftus get started in business, but he has other ideas.
