Sean O'Faolain
The Scene is laid in the Drawing Room of the Arnold's House in an Irish Provisional City.
Frenchwoman Maxine has married an Irishman, Patrick Arnold, and settled with him in a small Irish town. He had promised her a life of arts and music, but she finds no love of culture there whatsoever. She organises a Russian ballet troupe to come and perform here, but is appalled when the local Canon denounces the proposed performance from the pulpit.
