Louis d'Alton
The scene is laid in the kitchen of Broderick's public-house, a mile from the village of Carragh on the Limerick-Tipperary border.
Lar Broderick is a miserly publican who is under great stress because of the many debts he owes. He decides to murder an old man for his money, but discovers, after the deed is done, that the money is not in a negotiable form. His guilty conscience conjures up the spirit if the dead man to haunt him.
