Lismahogue.
Mary Doyle is an attractive servant girl who is courted by the bootmaker John William Rattigan. He has a rival for her affections in the form of Mr. Carmody, the local butcher. Rattigan tells Carmody that Mary has £500 squirrelled away beyond the £25 she actually has saved for herself, so Carmody starts vying for her attentions out of base financial motives.
