T.C. Murray
A wayside inn in north-eastern Hungary. The home of the Karavoes.
Peter Karavoe, his wife and daughter-in-law are so poor that they may not survive the winter. His son has gone to America to try to seek his fortune and provide for them. He returns in disguise as a stranger seeking shelter for the night. Peter resolves to kill him for his money.
