The action of the play takes place in the sitting-room of Theo's house.
Theo, a suburban widower with an invalid son and a doting daughter, shares his house with his sister-in-law and a maid. Julian, meanwhile, an architect with a penchant for beating his wife, is a close friend of the family. When it emerges that Theo is in love with Julian's mother Clara, all hell breaks loose...
