Declan Hughes
George Farquhar
A radical re-working of George Farquhar's 1698 Restoration comedy which uses the previously minor character of Lyrick, a writer struggling to finish a play, as a framing device in which the original story unfolds. Lyrick's play within a play relates the rutting adventures in London of the Irish rake George Roebuck while the hapless writer is himself plagued by his own lack of confidence and the sexual advances of his lascivious landlady.
