Sebastian Barry

1955 -

Born in Dublin, Sebastian Barry is a playwright, poet and novelist. He won the Costa Book of the Year Award with his novel The Secret Scripture in 2008, and has twice been shortlisted for the Booker prize. Further awards include the BBC/Stewart Parker Award for his 1989 play Boss Grady's Boys and the Christopher Ewart-Biggs Memorial Prize for The Steward of Christendom in 2005. He has held a number of academic posts and was writer-in-association with the Abbey Theatre from 1989-1990. Barry's novels include A Long Long Way (2005), The Engine of Owl-Light (1987), Elsewhere (1985), and Annie Dunne (2002). He has also published several volumes of poetry. He is a member of Aosdána and lives in County Wicklow.
