Marina Carr
Federico García Lorca
A version of the play by Federico García Lorca.
A fluid space - Andalusia, County Offaly.
In a village where tradition, blood ties and the land are sacred, an unnamed bride runs away from her wedding reception with her married former suitor, Leonardo. The bridegroom and Leonardo kill each other, leaving the bereaved women—Leonardo’s wife, the groom’s mother, and the bride—to bewail their losses. Marina Carr transposes Federico García Lorca's drama about star-crossed lovers and fatal factionalism from rural Spain to the Irish midlands.
