John B. Keane
Keane's play deals with the misadventures of a Cork draper in his sixties. A widower, self-made man and a dreadful bore, he is an embarrassment to his ambitious sons. He has a secret intention to marry the housekeeper who's looked after the family since the death of the mother, but his tolerant loving convent-bound daughter convinces him to tell the sons of intentions and acept the consequences. But it starts to go terribly wrong for him when he insults his intended bride so much so that see leaves. In the end he throws one and all out and is left alone.
