Cora and Mikey yearn for Dublin – for a life without secrets, without despair. Buries alive in their sad, sozzled uncle’s rural pub in the ‘crotch of the country’, the brother and sister are determined to escape. Particularly as Cora has a secret, one she has been harbouring ever since the day of her ninth birthday, when the local doctor took her to the beach for raspberry ripple ice cream. They make a pact to escape and flee on the eve of the millennium, but their flight leads them straight into the hands of the street-wise money-hungry Macca, and to a city that is far from the paradise that they had dreamt about.
