Parental Guidance was originally produced as a lunchtime production by The Comedy Cumann at the King's Head Bar, Galway, in 1996. The play received its professional premiere, as listed, as a companion piece to Religious Knowledge (listed separately).
This one-act comedy was written as the prequel to Religious Knowledge (listed separately). Using a theatrical device whereby the actors play the students of a Christian Brothers’ primary school in the first half of the play, and their parents on the day of the Parent Teacher meeting in the second, the play investigates the many similarities between children and their parents. The Brother, however, remains the constant presence throughout.
