Robert Anthony Welch

1947 - 2013

Robert Anthony Welch was Emeritus Professor of English at the University of Ulster. His wrote two plays for Ransom Theatre, Protestants (2004) and Static (2011). Welch was a noted critic and scholar, who published widely on Irish poetry. He also wrote several novels and volumes of poetry. As editor, his publications inlcude The Oxford Campanion to Irish Literature (1996). Kicking the Black Mamba, a memoir about the death of his son, was published in 2012.
